Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is arboriculture?
Arboriculture is the care and management of individual trees or groups of trees primarily for their amenity value and safety. Modern arboriculture is both an art and a science enabling both man and trees to co-exist in a sustainable environment.

So you are arborists?
Yes, that’s right. As arborists (or sometimes called tree surgeons), we are hands on practical people combining both physical and academic skills to utilise modern technology and scientifically based methods to care for trees. The Tree Company is a member of the International Society of Arboriculture.

What will the job cost?
Obviously every job is different and we undertake a wide range of work from single trees for private individuals to corporate contracts, planting and maintenance. This makes it impossible for us to have a set scale of charges. However, anyone can ask for a visit from one of the team to talk over the possible options and provide a quotation for the work that is required. This is a free service and puts you under no obligation to go any further if you don’t want to.

What about payment?
Once the job is finished the team leader will ask you to look at the finished work to make sure that everything has been completed satisfactorily and to answer any questions that you may have. An invoice will then be sent to you.

Are you qualified to do my job safely?
Yes, all our staff are fully trained and qualified. We do not employ sub-contractors. The Tree Company conforms to the latest industry best practice and relevant legislation. All our equipment and items of machinery are regularly inspected. The Tree Company has a policy of ongoing training and professional development.

Are you insured?
Yes, we have Public Liability insurance cover of €6.5 million, Employer’s Liability cover of €13 million and Professional Indemnity cover of €1 million. We will be happy to show copies of these policies on request.

What about all the waste material?
All the trimmings and waste timber produced in the course of our work for you get chipped using our woodchippers. We will take these away for you if you wish and this will need to be specified in your quotation. Don’t forget that woodchips make very useful garden mulch and we are happy to leave these for your own use if you would like them. For more information about this please see our page on Wood Chip Mulch. We will also leave any timber that you feel may be useful for firewood. However, if you would like it cut to sizes ready for the fire you will need to specify that when we are preparing your quotation for you.

What about my neighbours?
Please tell your neighbours what the proposed work will be and when we will be carrying it out. Sometimes we need to have access to a neighbouring property to carry out your work, for example when trees are situated on boundaries or when there are overhanging branches from your land to theirs. If you would like a member of our team to explain to them what needs to be done we will be happy to do so. We would always rather your neighbours knew we were coming than have them arrive home to find unexpected strangers on their property.

What about my garden and buildings?
All Tree Company staff are trained to work with great care to minimise the potential for damage to gardens and property. However, please remember that our work sometimes requires us to carry quantities of waste timber material through gardens and past buildings. We do recommend that you protect vulnerable surfaces such as painted walls with sheet plastic and also remove any breakable objects such as pots or statues to a safe place. Our staff will be happy to help you if you find this difficult. We will always suggest the most appropriate time to carry out your work so that the potential impact on your garden is minimised.

What about the weather?
Our team will turn up on the morning of the day agreed for the start of the work and do their utmost to complete the job within the agreed time. Do bear in mind, however, that there may be occasions when really bad weather makes it impossible for us to work safely and we will have to wait for better conditions.

How do I find out more?
If you would like to know more or have other questions then please don’t hesitate to telephone or email us. We always return calls or respond to emails and you will find full contact details on our Contact Page.
